Only At Van Avery Prep

We understand that parents have many choices for their child’s education. From other prestigious local private schools to top-notch area public schools the competition is fierce. What makes families choose Van Avery Prep and stay until their child graduates? The fact that so many great things can be found #OnlyAtVanAveryPrep. Let us tell you more.

House System

The four Houses of Van Avery Prep – Sabio, Valor, Dynami, and Isibindi – while divided by name, bring our students together. The Houses engage in friendly competition, vying for a coveted trophy by participating in challenges. These challenges range from academic contests like spelling and geography bees, to social challenges such as determining which class has the most students wearing their House shirts. The intention behind the House System is to motivate students to love coming to school, cultivate teamwork, and feel the satisfaction of being rewarded for their hard work and dedication.

Our Special Projects
NFL Flag Football
Van Avery Prep students go for the gold in our NFL Flag Football program. Our coed program consists of over 100 students in grades Kindergarten through 5th. Students not only score touchdowns but also cheer for their teams from the sidelines, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship. This program offers an engaging way for our students to stay fit and have fun while doing it.
Community Involvement
Philanthropy is woven throughout every aspect of the Van Avery Prep family. Whether it be our November Rotary food drive or raising breast cancer awareness through Pink Outs, all grades get involved to better the local and global community. Our middle schoolers and California Junior Scholastic Federation (CJSF) members are particularly dedicated to leadership and citizenship, participating in a multitude of service projects throughout the year.
Fun in the Field
We provide all our students with an opportunity to experience the real world and apply their classroom learning through field trips. These trips are primarily aimed at linking academic lessons with real-life experiences, such as mission trips that promote social emotional learning and service learning while exploring important points in history. Beginning in 4th grade, students look forward to overnight trips, which not only offer a chance to see cool places, but also foster independence and encourage a sense of global citizenship.
Spooky Science
Every year during Halloween, our middle schoolers put on presentations to demonstrate the spooky side of science. Using the scientific method and creativity, they prepare a spectacular showcase full of hands-on experiments for our younger students.
Our School Garden

In 2010, Van Avery Prep’s 8th grade class created the school’s garden project by raising funds through a bake sale. Since then, the garden has flourished, thanks to the partnerships of community nonprofits and grants. Students from all grades are involved in revitalizing and maintaining the garden. The garden promotes sustainability, but is also integrated into classroom lessons, particularly science units. For example, Kindergarten through 3rd grade students learn about nutrition by studying the fruits and vegetables that grow in the garden. In 4th grade, students get to grow their own salsa garden.
